Governors
St Joseph's is a Voluntary Aided school - what might be called a church school under the authority of the Archdiocese of Birmingham. The responsibility of running the school is put into the hands of a Governing Body.
The Governing Body is made up of various categories of Governor. Foundation Governors form the majority. They are appointed by the Archbishop to ensure the aims and objectives of the Archdiocese are maintained within St Joseph's. Other Governors are appointed to represent staff and parents at the school.
St Joseph's Governing Body is legally responsible for the operation of the school. It meets in full once a term normally, but mainly works through smaller committees dealing with:
Finance, Buildings and Health & Safety
Admissions
Human Resources
Standards and Achievement
Strategic Overview
The aim of the Governing Body is not to be involved in the day-to-day running of St Joseph's - for this we have a very able Head Teacher in Mrs Hill and a supportive and professional staff. The Governors are there to provide a strategic lead for the school, and to maintain oversight of how St Joseph's is running and whether it is meeting the high standards we set to educate and develop our children.
We have a governing body that is a partnership of experiences and talents representing parents, staff and the Archdiocese. Our meetings are business-like but fun, and governors are proud of St Joseph's end-product - our children.
